What are the strengths of Easyfind, HoudahSpot and Foxtrot Pro in comparison?
Frankly, I don’t know. I know EasyFind free and it works great when I need it. I appreciate DEVONtechnologies making it available as “freeware”. For me, the “free” plus it works as expected when I need it are the big strengths.
Try it. Don’t like it? Buy one or more of the competitors.

I don’t use EasyFind so I can’t comment on that. (Don’t forget DEVONsphere which is another option – though again I don’t use it.) I used HoudahSpot for a long time and found it very useful for quick searches when I couldn’t remember where something was. I’m a new user of FoxTrot so I’m not the best person to talk about it. You can find a description of its features on their website. All I will say is that it provides a lot more information about what it finds than HoudahSpot does. You can see the whole range of information in the screenshot above.
PS: FoxTrot Pro is very expensive. But good.
I wonder if anyone can speak to the differences and similarities with EasyFind and DEVONsphere. I use DS, but have never really tried EasyFind…
They are similar but DEVONsphere can find more types of items than EasyFind and also search inside DEVONthink databases.
