i’m still a relative novice to DTP and am trying to figure out how best to use it to interface with other apps. right now I’m trying to figure out how best to share/sync bookmarks between my browsers and DTP. in the past, I’d clip pages (in a webpages format) that seemed especially important for my research, and then store them into appropriate groups / databases. but that feels inefficient, and there’s probably a better way to go.
i’m curious what other users would suggest.
some colleagues suggested using Pinboard as a possible solution; namely: sharing/syncing bookmarks between my browsers and DTP via Pinboard. have other users used that w/ success?
Is this more to sync bookmarks between browsers or more for bookmarking pages for research later?
In my case, all of the articles I read I save to Pinboard (I use it as a read it later service/archive), then if the article or page has useful information I don’t need now but may, I tag it and leave it in Pinboard. If there is something that pertains to a project I am actively working on I may clip it to DTPO as a web archive or PDF.
If you pay the $25 a year, Pinboard archives the pages you save to it, so I find I don’t always need to clip to DTPO as I can access it later from Pinboard even if the website goes down.
I’m not sure that DTPO is the best to be synchronizing active/used everyday bookmarks. But I believe that Pinboard could work for you in that pursuit with tagging.
thanks so much for all of this - i greatly appreciate it.
actually a bit of both. yes, i’m trying to figure out how to better sync bookmarks between browsers (as well as between iOS devices), and how such syncing might also interface with DTP. but i’m also trying to figure out how to integrate this into the way that I clip
yeah, that’s pretty much how i organize my work as well. obviously, i haven’t yet used Pinboard as part of the process. but it’s good to hear that it’s useful that way.
good to know. if you don’t me asking, do you use Pinboard with any kind of iOS app?
yeah, i think i follow your process, and would probably follow pretty do the same.
i guess the one thing i’m wondering is if / how Pinboard could properly integrate with DTP/DTPO. anyone have any experience with it?
I suggest Pinner, I have been using it since 2013 and have tried other apps but they don’t offer the same feature set or development has lagged or been abandoned. That being said Pinner isn’t updated often but when a significant iOS update occurs the developer is quick to update or any bugs I have reported they have fixed quickly.
