How can I recover my toolbar after "upgrade" to Monterey MacOS 12?

After making the poor decision to upgrade to OS 12 Monterey, my toolbar at the top of the main window has the document title taking up about 20% of the toolbar space that I used to use for buttons — including the search field.
The search field is now about 1 finger-width wide. See screenshot.
What can I do to get my toolbar back? And please do not deliver the sarcastic response, “Downgrade to High Sierra.”

I’m not sure whether this is the issue, but please check this thread. If that’s not it, I’ll try to remember where else I saw something like what you are describing.

Just switch to icon only toolbar mode (which should actually be the default).

You can also click the On link under Help > Documentation > Appendix > Hidden Preferences > WindowToolbarStyleExpanded. This will return the title to the top of the window as previous operating systems displayed.

YES! That fixed it. Thanks!

For those of you who just want the terminal command:
defaults write com.devon-technologies.think3 WindowToolbarStyleExpanded -bool TRUE

You’re very welcome

And look, no one told you to downgrade to High Sierra

:ok_hand: :fireworks:
