How do you repair the database when Repair Utility does not take care of it

Where do I go from here?

Failed database verification, please repair the database.

iCloud Inbox = 0 iCloud Documents folder in iCloud

Brand new MBP with 32 Gb of memory.

Brand new implementation of Devonthink

Files from \iCloud Drive\0 iCloud Documents imported into database iCloud Inbox.

Even with this clean install I still sometimes get the warning that the database might still be open or not closed correctly. I did have one occasion where the system crashed overnight.

What do I do to clean up the inconsistencies?

Not sure how the Empty Files got created, See below…

See page 188 of current version (3.8.1) of the “DEVONthink Handbook”, section “REPAIRING A DEFECTIVE DATABASE” for steps you can take.

In this case the warning is definitely correct as neither the app nor the databases were closed properly. Did DEVONthink 3 crash in the other cases or did you use Force Quit? Anything else like a power outage or hard reset?

Empty File issues cannot always be automatically repaired. Are these files still fine on other devices/computers?

Just to be clear for others who might be following the thread, I am assuming that you mean the file labeled DEVONthink Manual Version 3.8.2 on your website.

Actually, no. I was indeed referring to 3.8.1 of the “DEVONthink Handbook” as at the time I wrote my reply, that was the current version and certainly the version I have in my DEVONthink “Favorites” group. I had no idea that 3.8.2 was on it’s way, imminently. And, I don’t publish the “DEVONthink Handbook” on my web site.

I hope what you found on DEVON Techologies’ web site DEVONtechnologies | Handbooks and Extras worked for you. Good to at least skim that document to catch the highlights and be aware of what’s there for future reference. IMHO it’s one of the best user guides about a software product I’ve seen in a very long time–not since printed books came in those big-box software products in the old days.
