I set up an encrypted DB for financial and tech stuff. I then set it to sync with CloudKit and set up encryption there.
I then set up a second Mac, and selected the DB in the cloud, but the created database is not encrypted on my second Mac. This is unexpected.
How do I fix this? It doesn’t appear I can just encrypt the local DB on the second Mac. I looked in the documentation and encrypted DB are discussed, but there is nothing about syncing them I can find. I’d really appreciate a step by step:
How to get out of state with my current setup
How this is supposed to be done in the future to ensure it works as expected.
Yes, that is the correct behavior. There are certainly use cases where a database would be encrypted on one device but not necessarily on another.
Delete the imported, unencrypted database.
Control-click the remote database and import it as an encrypted database. Note you have to set the size and encryption key for that machine. While it’s typical that would be the same on both, they technically don’t have to match (though size certainly would be important to keep the same).
This behavior will change in DEVONthink 4 and the natural import of an encrypted database will also be encrypted, with unencrypted being the secondary option.
