How to batch remove all external url's

This is a problem with these support forums, why do they exist if then people just tell you to “go read the manual” or 'go learn the software"..

I am simply asking for a quick solution to a very simple problem that you all seem to know inside out but are refusing to share with me in a way that could be done with a simple screenshot of this same window with all the settings correct. I don’t understand why that’s so difficult to do.
Even more ironic is that I’m sitting here messing with this trial contemplating spending $500 on this product. And yet being almost scolded for asking a simple question and a little help.

Tried one last time…

All it does when I click ok is that it’s shutd down the folder window and when I reopen it all the urls are still there. OK i give up. Thaks for the ‘support’.

Before you get too upset, I would recommend you just read carefully from the top all the messages. People here have explained what to do.

You got to almost the point you want, but in the last:

Change URL … to … URL

observe how Bluefrog had shown you this:

Change URL… to… empty field

Just a matter of inserting your cursor after the blue URL token and delete, and see if it works.

That’s rather a problem with users who don’t want to spend the time reading the manual but rely on others doing it for them and then treating them as a free support channel.
I did tell you where the problem with your rule lies. And that is as much time as I’m going to spend.

At the very beginning of this thread I did clearly state from where they were downloaded. But It doesn’t matter, I’m going to delete the trial and go find something else.
Take care.

No need for snarkyness. The situation is people are trying to explain and you are having a hard time understanding. A little patience and the will to try and understand without flying off the rail is helpful to you. Customer service from DT is terrific, which other forum you’ll be getting people giving you so many answers??

What are great way to do business, people like you or why people don’t buy this product. This pervading attitude of conceit and arrogance and elitism is just disgusting in a support forum.

Did you read and try my suggestion?

None of this will help you understand and create the rule you want. And you will be missing out on an amazing product.

I still doubt that adding a change URL action to this rule helps as long as the condition is “URL matches empty string”. Not that it matters much.

I find it disappointing that you take my efforts to help as elitism. You can DM me if you like to get help out of the “public eye" of the forum.

The only one who has been rude in this thread is you, however, I also suspect that you’re getting very frustrated with your tech problem and probably needed a break. Various users have tried to help you and given the correct answer, and I’m not writing anything here that hasn’t already been said in the thread. Sometimes people just need something explaining differently so I hope this helps.

Bluefrog gave you the best answer at the top of this thread, which is using the tools>batch process option. As you’re wanting to “batch process” a group of files with a behaviour DT already expects (removing a URL), they have built this into the menu to make it a quick job for you. There are lots of things like this in DT, where the team know an action is a common one so have already provided a menu option for it so that you don’t need to do it yourself.

If you want to do it as a smart rule instead, that’s fair enough. It is worth reading the manual section on smart rules as when you get to the forum we will assume you already know the fundamentals (or that you read it and really don’t understand it, that happens too!). In your case, in your last screengrab your condition is illogical and the rule won’t work.

You have told DT to look in the group/folder in Drawing (Search in) and if the URL is blank (All of the following are true...), to change the URL to the URL in the field (Change URL to URL). (The blue card is a placeholder card that reads data in the field.)

There’s no way for any computer to execute this, in simple English it says “if the URL in the URL field is blank, please fill the field with the URL in the field.”

The smart rule should be:

Which says “if the URL is not blank, please change the URL to blank”.

It would be quicker to just use the tool that’s already in the menu though. Building your own smart rules is a fun learning experience, but only if you treat them as an opportunity for that.
