How to set thumbnails as raw data?

Trying to set thumbnails with the result of ImageMagick conversions. The dictionary says:

Setting supports both raw data and strings containing paths or URLs.

but I can’t find a way to set a thumbnail as raw data (which is as «class ****» or as list of real or real I think). The only thing that works is setting a record’s thumbnail to the thumbnail of another record.

Is this possible?

That’s currently the only way due to AppleScript limitations, therefore you could e.g. write the data to a temporary file.

This issue came up again in another recent discussion. I’m just putting a pointer here, in case someone else in the future comes along and doesn’t notice this (IMHO) very unexpected detail about AppleScript in this case.
