Importing formerly indexed files

Hi there,

Importing previously indexed files isn’t working reliably. I’ve tried several times, using different setups, to import files into a database that were indexed before. Specifically, I right-click the file and choose “Move to Database.”

This works fine for some files, but others cannot be imported at all. I suspect it may be user error — but what might I be doing wrong?

Many thanks for your help!

Peter

Where are the files which can’t be moved into the database located in the filesystem? Are these cloud files and are they locally available?

They are on my NAS but I moved them also to my hard drive to see whether it is making a difference. I also renewed the database but no difference.

Thanks for your reply!!!

Did you check the permissions and ownership of those files that can’t be moved into the database?

yes - same rights in a files that is blocked as in a file that can be imported.

Where’s the database located in the filesystem? Is there enough disk space left?

The database is located on my internal hard drive, and there is sufficient free disk space. I had already considered this as a possible cause, but it does not appear to be the issue. I have also restarted DEVONthink and rebooted the Mac.

I then ran another test: I created a new database and imported the files that previously showed this “strange” behavior — and it worked.

However, when I moved the group from this test database into the target database, the group and files were automatically converted to indexed items. When I moved them back into the test database, I was no longer able to bring them back as imported files.

I deleted the files and repeated the test. The same behavior occurred again.

An NAS isn’t just an external hard drive. It’s a file server with its own OS, filesystem, etc. I would look at the permissions in Synology’s Disk Station Manager.

As I wrote before it works with a new database but for some reason not with the target database which was used before with the indexed files.

At the moment I cannot see an issue with the permission in Synology DSM. But of course I will check everything again.

Many thanks for all the hints!
