Indexing files that are in iCloud, but not local

I apologize if this is a dumb question. I’ve searched the forums and THINK I know the answer, but I’m still not sure and don’t want to perform science experiments.

Let’s say I have a folder with 100 items in it in iCloud Drive. 50 of the items are cached locally/downloaded from iCloud, 50 of them are in that “yeah, they’re in the cloud but not downloaded state.”

I point DevonThink Pro at that folder and say “index it.” What happens?

  • All items are downloaded and indexed (eventually?)
  • Only the 50 items downloaded are indexed. The other 50 are stubs or not there
  • Something else?

My belief is that the first bullet point is what actually happens, but I’m unsure how well this works for huge amounts of data.

Thanks!

All indexed but locally not yet available files will be indeed downloaded (assuming there’s a network connection and enough disk space).
