I already submitted a support ticket yesterday evening, but perhaps others are also affected by this: when attempting to install DTTG 4.0.1, DTTG4 was downloaded from the App Store. When opening it for the first time, the message “Migrate database” appears briefly, then DTTG4 crashes. The app icon is present on the home screen, but the app cannot be opened.
Reinstalling after restarting the device was also unsuccessful
I guess it is your nomenclature that is making what you did uncertain to me. The standard iOS feature to remove an app is to press on the app’s icon and pick “Remove App”. Is that what you did when you said you “uninstalled it”?
I did notice on the Apple App store that DEVONthink ToGo 4.0.1 was not displayed as upgrade, so I did the “remove app” process to then install from the App Store a copy of 4.0.1
This is the first and so far only occurrence of this issue.
Depending on the size of your databases, you could try to remove version 3 first, then install version 4 and sync your databases to your phone again. Only if you have sync set up of course and are comfortable with such a procedure.
But we will also look into the crash report and deploy a fix if possible. But as the Black Friday weekend is approaching and DTTG4 was just released, we have ton of work and only so much time.
The uninstallation of DTTG3 and the reinstallation of DTTG4 after restarting the iPad was successful.
Synchronization is currently running via iCloud—it just takes a little time due to the number of documents in the databases.
Ok, same problem for me on iPhone. I suspect because the migration process was interrupted as I had to answer the phone. When I got back, DTTG4 crashed. Complete uninstall and reinstall. Same thing. On my iPad I paid attention to wait until the end of the migration. Successful. I do not want to remove DTTG3 from my iPhone as it works fine. Huge database of 180Gb. Too long to sync again using Bonjour (it took me days). So I would prefer a fix to install DTTG4 again without the crash because of inconsistent migrated data. DTTG3 works perfectly so far. I will just wait
I’ve the same problem. The installation on the iPad worked well, but on the iPhone, I had exactly the same as aota4. Like Jackarta, I don’t feel comfortable removing DTTG3 and re-installing DTTG4. I’d rather wait for a fix.
92 GB in total. I’ve 20 databases, with very different sizes. The biggest one is 20 GB, three are two databases of 10 GB each, and 10 databases are very small (in the order of MB).
DTTG4 only tries once to convert the data store. What you could try is remove DTTG4, launch DTTG3 once to see if the database looks OK, then reinstall DTTG4 and let it run the migration again.
I just did the migration from 3 to 4 on my iPad 13 PRO M4. Migration went perfect but I ended up with 166 duplicates that was only in my SMART Group “Duplicates” on my iPad. The same group on my Mac is empty. I decided to totally erase the app on my iPad, installed 4 again and did a sync from scratch. Same thing occurred - 166 duplicates on my iPad 0 on my Mac. I might do a ticket so Eric/Jim can see where the bug is but will wait until next version. I think there used to be a click box in Settings in the Mac Version re. stricter treatment of duplicates but could not find it anymore. I am in love with the 4 on my iPad regardless. It’s a REAL upgrade from 3. Feels I can do almost as much as on my Mac. I used sidecar earlier to get to my Mac version - not necessary anymore. Thanks for a GREAT app.
Note duplicate detection is not the same between the two apps. The underlying technologies are different.
Also, long-press the Duplicates smart group and choose Edit. Is the criteria still intact, e.g., Item is duplicated ?
PS: Files > General > Stricter recognition of duplicates in DEVONthink 4.

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement. They’re very appreciated!
Aha! Great that I woke up this morning - learn something new!
App is fantastic - I actually celebrate 10 years with DEVONthink this year. Best app ever. On effect however is that the few friends I convinced to get it - calls frequently for help but that’s fun to keep contact with people on the other side of the world.
