Installation problems

I know that installation via drag and drop should be simple, but I experienced the following:

Tried to copy DEVONthink Pro from disk image to my Applications folder.

An older item named “DEVONthink Pro” already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the newer one you are moving?

Replace

The operation cannot be completed because the item “DEVONthink Sorter” is in use.

OK

The operation cannot be completed because the item “MacOS” is in use.

OK

Renamed existing DEVONthink Pro to DEVONthink PRO 2.0pb1. Tried again to copy. Copy completed. Placed DEVONthink PRO 2.0pb1 into Trash; tried to empty Trash:

The operation cannot be completed because the item “DEVONthink Sorter” is in use.

Continue

The operation cannot be completed because the item “DTKitchenSink” is in use.

Continue

The operation cannot be completed because the item “DEVONwebkit” is in use.

Continue

The operation cannot be completed because the item “DevonMetaData” is in use.

Continue

The operation cannot be completed because the item “DEVONfoundation” is in use.

Continue

The operation cannot be completed because the item “DEVONappkit” is in use.

Continue

Trash finished emptying what it could. Logged-out. Logged-in again. Tried again to empty Trash. Trash emptied successfully. DEVONthink Pro launched successfully.

DEVONthink Pro works well for me. Thanks.

To install pb2, first Quit pb1.

Open Activity Monitor and Quit actions that include DEVONthink in their name, e.g., the Sorter.

Now pb2 can replace pb1 when dragged into Applications, or into the folder within Applications that holds pb1.

It would help to inform beta downloaders of where they click the download link on the website. I’ve never encountered this situation on any other beta software installation. Much time was wasted trying to figure out what the problem was.
