Integrating Devonthink with an email program

If you are running the Standard edition of DEVONthink, you will not have the Import sidebar. It also could contain an email but they are not indexed nor searchable in Standard. Email handling is a function of the Pro and Server editions.

And the email client is the application you are using to access your emails, e.g., Apple Mail. And no, that does not include accessing Gmail, Yahoo Mail, etc. in a browser.

I have Devonthink 3 pro versionā€¦ I dont see the email handling or import sidebarā€¦ is it possible that I am running only the standard version despite having paid for the pro versionā€¦ is there something that should be unlockedā€¦

Post a full-resolution screen capture of what youā€™re looking at in DEVONthink.

It would be easier to understand your posts if you were marking quotes as such. There are icons available for that on top of the edit pane.

Thanks very much. I dont know why I missed this. Old age maybe

No worries and youā€™re welcome

I always had problems with creating a support case from DT.
It always tries to use the Apple Mail program, which I donā€™t use.

DT should better simple provide the required text and display the mail address to be used, and where the log files are located what should be attached.

But thatā€™s a different topic

That might be a feasible approach for the fairly small group of people comfortable assembling a mail message with information from different places. Many others will be scared away by that.

I use Mailmate. Amongst other things I like about it - the Devonthink integration is bundled in.
needs to be ticked in settings and then just a keystroke awayā€¦

One thing to be concerned about Mailmate:
Benny has announced the subscriber form of payment now for the program; and also has alluded to the fact that this may not work, no promises about future of Mailmate.

You can read the information on the blogsiteā€“and as of July, EVERYONE who uses Mailmate and updates to the new version will be required to pay $10 every 3 months.

Another beef with Mailmate is it often duplicates sent items for 365 email accounts (they are not actually duplicated but show up twice in Mailmate sent items for some reason). It got so annoying I abandoned Mailmate.

This is not entirely accurate. Itā€™s important to read the post in full (New license key model introduced). To upgrade to version 2 you will have to subscribe (which is $10 every 3 months (some time to do so if have a legacy licence)), but after the initial outlay of $10 you may revert to Free Mode which provides use of the app in exactly the same form as Paid Mode except a line is added in the header of emails (which may show in some clients) ā€œMailmate Free Modeā€. You are of course encouraged to continue subscribing. So you can get away with a one-off payment of $10 to upgrade. The developer is hoping enough users will not do this to provide him with an income to continue his good work.

I think it is good that the developer is honest about the income challenges deriving from the past model and is upfront about his sole developer status and the inherent risks.

Anyway, like anyone I guess I am giving thought to my ongoing use of the product but do feel a small investment to see how v2 goes is worth it. Every time I try Apple Mail, inline attachments and missing search results due to regularly corrupted Spotlight email indexes drive me nuts.

Please note: I did indicate that IF one upgrades to new version, you must pay the quarterly fee.

I have no dog in this race, instead I chose to sever my ties with Benny and Mailmate after a decade plus of great service.

May you find whatever works for you and be satisfied.

Yes, thank you for that. And also ā€œevery 3 months.ā€ Just wanted to clarify you can avoid that. Nothing more :slightly_smiling_face:
