Integration of DTP3 with Bookends

Have you looked at the Tools > Summarize Annotations command in DEVONthink?

Aha! ANOTHER useful discovery. Thank you Jim. While it would ā€˜be nice’ to have that on the summary sheet for the article, I realize I can get it from BE or DTP and add it the summary rtf I get when I import from BE.

My only interest in again having in one place those highlights as a list is IF it increases the likelihood of DTP recommending a PDF to me when I do a search or am doing work in DTP. My goal in using DTP is to manage info and increase the likelihood that I see connections. Or, is it the case that because DTP has already indexed the entire PDF, the fact that I highlighted something in in doesn’t ā€˜bump up’ that content so that PDF shows in list of suggested relevant pieces? I don’t think I entirely understand that part to decide if I’d want to seek out the list of highlights in a PDF and have them in addition to summary from BE or paste them in into that summary.

Thank you for any insight on this.

You could open the Info > Annotations & Reminders inspector and create an annotation file. Then you could use the Insert Summarize Annotations command to insert the PDF annotations into this file.

That certainly sounds like it would streamline the process of combining the annotations into the BE summary, but I guess the real issue is would it matter to results returned as similar to the summary.

With more info there on the BE summary, it seems like it would, but as evidenced on this thread, there is a lot I don’t understand and am fumbling around, haha. Is this a try it out kind of thing, or can a rule of operation inherent to DTP be applied that would answer this in a general way.

Also, I think I have observed that the notes shown on summary docs are bi-directional. I’ll see if the added annotations list then shows up in the notes of BE.

Most things in DEVONthink are a ā€œtry it out knd of thingā€.
