Issue -1004 with WebDAV sync

Ich updateded DT 3.6.1 yesterday.

i tried the following apps with WebDAV http(s):

on macOS: Finder, Cyberduck, Transmit
on iPad: GoodReader, Notobility, DEVONTHINK TO GO !!!

DT (iPad) Sync works without any problem with my qnap!

HI all, I have downgraded to 4.5.1 initial version and to latest 4.4.3 version - no change still error -1104 from all my devices including iPad with iOS 4.

Because I have still no feedback from QNAP, I will send back the nas and adapt my workflow for simpler approach like Bonjour syncing.

Thanks for brainstorming!
Ralph

Did you try to connect to the WebDAV server via the Finder (see Go > Connect to Serverā€¦)? Does this work or fail too?

I tried - was ok - troubles were only happening in the applications Devonthink 3 / DTTG and Omnifocus.

My concern is, that I have data which I am NOT ALLOWED TO SEND TO PUBLIC CLOUD. So, need for local sync is very strong for me.

Tried the local-only Bonjour protocol? Works well here and FAST!

Just to make sure:

  • if you try to connect to the QNAP from DT, you use an IP address for the NAS or a name? Which port do you use there?
  • if you connect with the Finder (successfully), you use an IP address or a name? Which port do you use there?

I find it hard to understand that NSURLErrorDomain 1004 (which means ā€œcannot connect to hostā€) arises in one case and not in the other for the exact same host from the same source. Also, the output of

nc -vz <ip-address-or-host-name> <port>

in the terminal might be helpful (where port should be the port you specified in DT, ip-address or host-name the corresponding IP address or host name.
Could you post screenshots for you finder and your DT connection?

I tried to connect only by IP address in all cases.

Hard to understand for me, too.

I already packed the device and will send it back because too much time needed to correct thisā€¦

But thanks for your ideas!

OK good news  I restarted QNAP and Mac and redownloaded DT. AND now it is working :flushed: I really donā€™t know whats going on but it seems that the problem is gone!:star_struck:

Hi @robertomk, what do you mean with redownload? Removing the app and the folders in library?

I would like to try it because Qnap support is not finding a solution.

Thanks
Ralph

Just download the app from our website again (https://www.devontechnologies.com/download/) and replace the installed app with the downloaded one. Itā€™s not necessary to remove any folders or preferences.

Done. But no change. Setup WebDAV store works but Synchronisation of inbox is getting error -1004. So, I will send the nas back and find another solution for me. Thanks everybody!

Did you restart the Mac and the QNAP too? You might also check the firewall (see system preferences) and whether it blocks DEVONthink.

As much as I believe that it is a network problem, why would the firewall block http(s) from DT but not from the finder? On the other side, Apple loves to do weird things with the networkā˜¹ļø
Iā€™d suggest to run a Wireshark session on the connection between the Mac and the NAS on the http port used for Webdav (https is not feasible here because itā€™s encrypted). That should give a protocol of the communication between the devices.

I made a shutdown on my QNAP and Mac. After restart I removed DT app. Reinstalled the DT. You can try to remove and set the sync settings in the preferences of the app. This helped me. I have no software Firewall or stuff like Little Snitch on my Mac. If you use this turn them off.

Wild and crazy idea. Do a NVRAM reset on the mac.

I was having trouble reaching a networked SMB share. Mounting the shares worked on my MacBook, but not iMac. Tried everything I could think of. Did a NVRAM reset which includes a re-boot. Using up to date Big Sur. After restart all worked well on the iMac.

Might be coincidental. At least two things changed (NVRAM and reboot) and untold what else ā€¦ but ā€¦

I stop here. The issue is not only on my MacBook but also with my iPad. And 2 of 3 apps do have problems and one not. Too much time needed for analysis. But thanks all.

In addition: Switching to my old NAS with 4.3.3 works immediatelyā€¦

As Iā€™ve texted elsewhere ā€¦ how do know it worked? Have you verified every file? DT doesnā€™t give you a way of checking so a file or two may be missing and you wouldnā€™t know.

I keep asking this question but havenā€™t had an answer yet :flushed:

I rely on the Verify command.

Perhaps ask this question in a new thread? Tacking on to other threads may not get the attention you seek.

Have you double checked to make sure the path is correct in the WEBDAV setup for DT3? It seems like I have had that problem on my Syno before. I have to add the path to the folder Iā€™m syncing to to the addressā€¦

https://xxx.synology.me:5006/path/to/syncstore

Perhaps the update to Qnap changed that somehow?

Everything was correct because the sync file was created in the right place but immediately afterwards sync broke.
