I spent the last three weeks tinkering with my databases because the syncing got all wonky. Every time I opened a database it said it was already in use. I optimized, verified, repaired, rebuilt and it still kept getting hung up.
I was about to embark on rebuilding when I perused the log and I realized all my errors were missing files in the trash. I then realized that after six years of dumping a lot in DTP,
(embarrassed whisper) I never emptied my trash. 20K files 
Wow does everything work just fine now.
