mailbox list doesn't always populate

I’m using Devonthink Pro Office v. 2.0pb3r2.

In the course of a day, I’ll repeatedly open and close various DT databases, importing various emails from Apple Mail. Invariably, at some point, after selecting import and email, and ensuring that Apple Mail is the designated source, I’ll find that the mailbox list will refuse to populate. The only way to get it to restart is to completely shut down DT Pro and Apple Mail, and restart them.

Is this a known problem and is there a fix, either in my process, or upcoming in the app?

Thanks.

I experienced a similar problem with the exception that the list would populate partially but have huge white space between emails. (This is prior to importing). Turns out the emails were there, but didn’t appear until I had clicked on the empty space or clicked and dragged over the space. Don’t know if something similar is going on for you.

What can you see in the Console application during that time?

I haven’t figured out how to cause the problem…it’s just something that eventually happens. However, I’ll keep Console running and send it to you as soon as I see a recurrence.

Please give me an idea of where to look in Console, and what to look for.

Thanks.

Any message from Mail or DEVONthink Pro in the console.log file.

Okay. I just closed mail and, with Devonthink open, selected File > Import > Email… got the Apple Mail/Unix import screen (with Apple Mail selected). Progress indicator did its thing for a second or two, then froze. Following is from the Console messages:

Those messages are not created by our plugin. What other plugins are you using for Mail?

I’m using SpamSieve, though I disabled its rule. Had also been using Mailtags, but I uninstalled that, restarted then closed Apple Mail. At that point, with Devonthink running, I again tried to import mail. The Mail app loaded, but the mailbox list did not populate. This was the message on Console:

3/24/09 12:03:07 PM Mail[8543] DEVONMailConduit 2.0 loaded

When I repeated this process a second time, still with an empty mailbox list, I got these Console messages:

3/24/09 12:07:02 PM Mail[8551] DEVONMailConduit 2.0 loaded
3/24/09 12:07:02 PM Mail[8551] DEVONMailConduit 2.0 loaded

Curiouser and curiouser…

There are no errors, otherwise they would be logged. Have you tried to Mailbox > Rebuild the mailbox from where you want to import messages? What happens if you select them in Mail and do "Message > Add to DEVONthink Pro Office 2?

I did try rebuilding, which changed nothing.

However, when I tried to send a message FROM Mail via Message > Add to Devonthink Pro Office 2, the message failed to transfer and I saw the following in the Devonthink log:

12:36:06 PM Message Import from Mail ***-[SDistantObject MethodSignatureForSelector:]: remote object does not recognize selector: ‘SelectionForToken.’

Any help (it’s probably obvious by now that I’m pretty clueless about how this stuff works)?

That implies that something is very broken between DEVONthink and Mail. Are you using any haxies, Input Managers or other tools for Safari for instance that insert code into other applications? At this point it’s best to run a profile on your computer using System Profiler and send it to support@devon-technologies.com. You can use this thread as a reference for it.
