I can understand why having a book list in DT would be useful, but I’m wondering why nobody has mentioned using Bookends or Zotero (free) for this purpose. I understand they both play nicely with DT. Also, you don’t have to own a book in order to put it in either of those apps – you can make a category for Future Reading, or whatever, make all the notes you want to, add pdf reviews, etc., and link to DT.
You’d have to define the parameters. For example, trying to store an image in a sheet is theoretically possible but not a good idea. Using a rich text table is possible but you’d need to generate a sitably sized thumbnail to place. Markdown is possible, and could be styled, but Markdown tables can be fiddly.
I’m looking for something much simpler — a list of books I might want to read, with the ability to sort them by genre (fiction vs. nonfiction) and author, along with adding a brief optional note why I thought it might be a good read (heard the author interviewed, friend recommended it, etc.) Anything else would be overkill — and I think maybe the ability to sort by author is also overkill.
I also track books I’ve completed reading, along with notes
I need a status tag/column
@BLUEFROG - Am I correct that since there is no Markdown column possible in a Sheet, it is not possible to use transclusion to copy other documents?
If this were possible then it would make Sheets very useful as a summary document for the contents of a Group.
Sheets don’t support transclusion. They’re also not web-based so having a Markdown cell wouldn’t technically make sense.
See e.g. Data > New from Template > Education > Books
Darn, that is a nice-looking sheet. I may need to rethink my system.
In addition, there’s also the alternate form view to edit sheets.
