I make extensive use of Merge & Delete for PDFs of imported files and appreciate the feature. But roughly 10% of the time, there is no result after choosing the command. I’ve tried using the command from the Tools drop-down menu, right-clicking the selected files and choosing the command, and also the Merge & Delete button I’ve added to the tool bar, all with the same result. Most of the time these are bank/credit card statements downloaded from the web and typically there are just two files I’m trying to merge. When this happens, I usually end up opening the files (from DT) with Preview and manually merging, but that approach is a bit tedious. Any thoughts on why this command sporadically fails for me?
Welcome @tkilberg
I’d hazard a logical guess you have encrypted PDFs that can’t be merged. Have you checked for the property icon…
Another possibility is that these PDF documents have limited permissions, see e.g. Info window in Preview.app.
Thank you both for the quick suggestions! In Preview.app, both files show this:
@BLUEFROG - After looking in DT’s Info Inspector and also in the Finder, I could not find property icons like your example. (But I didn’t see information presented exactly like your clipping, so I may not be looking in the right location.) DT lists the Kind of file as PDF+Text for both, and Finder provides this:
As a test, I just copied both files from DT to the Finder and used Preview.app to merge the two files with success, so I remain puzzled!
