FYI even when files “imported”, DEVONthink does not mess with the files at all.
Thanks for the response and heads up.
Indeed, DT does not change the files themselves by converting them into one proprietary format or another, but it does squirrel them away into its own folder system, so an export is required to put everything in order. In other words, what I meant to say is that there is a step involved in getting files out of DT if imported, but it is nearly instantaneous and quite straightforward.
I use both DT and evernote [since 2008], for different reasons. in discussing evernote I think it should be emphasized that since the beginning it has been a Multiplatform application unlike DT. this created problems and UI differences since the different OS’s used different code bases. this also made it very hard to make changes since multiple codes had to be rewritten. Electron [rightly or wrongly] enabled them to go to a more unified code base for the different OS’s. I applaud their courage in not standing still and trying , basically successfully, to make this evolution. I am a pure Apple user but appreciate that evernote made the decision to be Multiplatform. DT has made the choice to focus on the Apple universe and I sure appreciate that it enables them to put all their efforts into a more focused approach. I hope both are successful for a long time.
