I’m trying to set up sync for DT using Apple Server.
I previously had DT sync set up using a local sync store and was connecting my laptop and my iPhone and iPad that way.
I want to move to using the WebDAV sync option and make it available from wherever I am using my own server.
I’ve read the documentation esp the parts starting on page 106 but it doesn’t make sense to me. According to the information in the Server App I have Caching, File Sharing, FTP, Screen Sharing and SSH set for All Networks but only some users (only me as my main user on that mac). I wanted to restrict the users for security reasons. My Server info pane says the machine is supposedly reachable and gives an IP address.
In DEVONThink I set up a new WebDAV server with the URL /DAV/ per the info to give the full pathname.
However I keep getting a message that the server is unreachable and I can’t seem to get it to set up. “Could not connect to the server. (NSURLErrorDomain -1004)”
Neither the Apple server documentation nor the DEVONThink documentation seem to have what I need to get it running. I suspect that my server isn’t really reachable but I’m not finding anything that points me as to how to check it or how to fix it if it isn’t since it all seems to be set up properly.
So far nothing on the Apple forums comes close to answering. I’m a 7 hour drive across many mountain passes from the nearest Apple Store and Genius bar. To go there is a 2 day trip and would also involve a hotel stay. Not everyone is close to a city, especially in the western states! So no I have not even considered that, it’s unreasonable.
Yes, I can reach the server for syncing Omnifocus. Which is what leads me to believe that there must be something I can do in DT to fix it.
Er, just trying to help – but no one suggested you drive 7 hours anywhere.
Try using the address without the terminating slash. In some WebDAV configurations that slash is needed but it’s worth attempting without it. In Finder, for example, you enter the address without the slash but if you add that location as a “favorite” in the servers list, Finder adds the slash.
Please ensure that the used port and the used scheme (http vs. https) are correct. Are you able to connect to the WebDAV server via the Finder and using exactly the same URL?
