in my ~/Databases folder, I don’t understand why I see multiple versions of a database file called XYZMaster

What app are you viewing that in??

in Finder. Now all -* files are greyed out and only the original is not.

The Finder doesn’t present checkboxes as you’re showing here.

I just used carbon copy cloner file navigation system. Same thing in Finder except that files -* are greyed out. I will do the research and get back to you if I can’t solve it. Thank you and have a nice weekend !
Are you doing backups to the Databases folder in your home directory?
