Navigation using Smart Rule

Big fan of DTP, especially paired with a Fujitsu Scanner and Hazel. With a smart rule, I am hoping to auto navigate to the Inspector Pane, Custom tab, to manually enter custom meta data after tagging, renaming, etc with standard smart rule actions. I’ve looked thru the boards, Reddit, etc but have not found a method to auto navigate/open the Inspector/Custom pane with a smart rule. Any thoughts? AppleScript solution would be fine! Thanks in advance.

I’m not sure I understand. If you enter the information manually anyways, why not simply use the keyboard shortcut? (Ctrl-2)

Neither scripting nor smart rules are made to “to auto navigate to the Inspector Pane, Custom tab”. In fact, there’s no need to as true automations aren’t virtual robots pushing buttons for you. You don’t need the inspector open to rename, tag, or change custom metadata. And it’s quite likely you don’t need Hazel for some of this either.

So what are you specifically trying to accomplish?

Thank you for the prompt reply.

I am looking to achieve this scripted navigation for an older client who is now a DTP fan and fewer keyboard strokes / clicks would be a bonus. She forgets time to time how to navigate to the Custom Pane & this automation would be beneficial. I was able to migrate her from Paperless that had a simplistic UI with the metadata pane anchored & adjacent to the main panel. DTP’s smart rules do indeed offer very handy automation features (renaming, tagging, grabbing information for metadata, etc) and looking to extend the power for my client. In my experience, identifying file content using Hazel is much easier & more consistent than with DTP. With Hazel, l I tag files for DTP to consume and autofile. There are some features in Hazel not available in DTP (rule preview capabilities, custom table attributes, seeing how a single file aligns to all of your rules, etc). Together, DTP and Hazel are very powerful for my Use Cases.

Whatever Hazel does can be done with a script in DT, too. And probably more.
