OCR sucks? Split tool needed for large image pdf's

Yesterday I tried to import some large image pdf’s (more than 50 pages each) into DT pro Office. When I noticed that the program stalled. It seems that no more than the first 50 pages of each pdf are OCR’ed just like in Readiris pro 11.
Is there a tool available to split large pfd into small chunks? And another tool to rejoin the OCR’ed parts into one document?

You can split PDFs with a program called Combine PDFs. Unfortunately, it’s a manual process. Perhaps someone else knows a better system?
