OK to modify indexed folder at both ends of a sync?

I’ve mostly been going with imported databases, but am now using a few indexed databases. I like that DEVONthink moves my indexed files to the exact same location on both my Macs when I sync (I have chosen to synchronize content of indexed items, if that is what did it).

Question: is it safe to add items to an indexed folder on either Mac, so long as I’m not doing it at the same time? Or should I solely add items to the indexed folder on one Mac?

This should be safe as long as the items don’t have the same filename.
