PDF Annotation

Hello All,

I am looking for a way to annotate pdf files in DevonThink and have those annotations be searchable (i.e. the content of the annotations be included in the search results). I have looked for the feature directly in DevonThink Pro Office 2.0 (which I am currently using) and couldn’t find it, nor could did a search of the forum provide any results on the matter. I have tried making notes in Preview and while they will show up in DevonThink they are not included in the search results (per my informal testing). In essence, I want to be able to make marginal notes/comments and have them be searchable in DevonThink. Does anyone know how this can be done?

Many thanks in advance!

The annotations created by Acrobat, Skim and Preview are not part of the searchable ‘text layer’ of PDFs, so cannot searched currently in DEVONthink 2.

There have been a number of requests to enable searches of note annotations created by Skim, and Christian has noted that this may be possible in a future release.

I’ve been merrily associating rich text notes with documents of all filetypes for a long time. I’ve posted the link to a little example database at:

That database can also be easily converted into a Web site as noted in the above post.
