PDF “jumps” when zooming in and out

Dear DEVONthink-Team and enthusiasts!

After upgrading from DEVONthink to go 3 to 4 I experience the problem that when I zoom in or out in a PDF it “jumps” after some seconds up and down sometimes on top of the page or sometimes even to other pages of the pdf.

It gets impossible to read or to make annotations.

I use DTTG 4 o an iPad Pro 11 2. Generation with the latest iPadOS update.

Is there a checkbox I need to use to stop this behavior?

Thanks for your help!

Welcome @m.belluzzo
Are you switching apps then returning to find the PDF display has changed?

Hi!

no. I give talks and use a script on a DIN A4 page. Sometimes I have to zoom in to look up a note. The iPad lies on the table and I don’t touch it. I look up to the audience and down to the tablet and the PDF is on another page or it moved on top of the page.

This behavior doesn’t happen all the time. Only it happens suddenly and then until I restart DEVONthink. But restarting the app doesn’t help every time.

Some days ago it was so “jumpy” that I had to put the finger on the screen to “hold” the page still. This helped to keep the page on the desired spot but was really annoying.

Nello!

Am I the only one with this problem?

@Bluefrog: do you need further information?

Greetings,

Maurizio

Maybe this happens when DTTG4 syncs, then reloads the document due to (apparent) changes coming in? In this case it would be a bug, obviously. Would you mind and try to switch off automatic syncing to see if it still happens?

Hi @m.belluzzo, I am having this problem with DTTG 4 as well. It is happening on both of my iPads - iPad mini (A17 Pro) and iPad pro (4th generation), both updated to latest iOS. On all pdf documents, the zoom “jumps” like in your video, typically back to a full-page view. This happens every few seconds. Sometimes, more rarely, documents jump to a random page somewhere in the middle (this happens on vertical, continuous scrolling).

I never had problems with DTTG 3 so I am going to revert for now.

OK, thank you for the video. @BLUEFROG, please open an issue for this.

Done.

Do you know if this bug has been addressed? I have been using DTTG 3 in the meantime - is it possible / advisable to run both DTTG 3 and 4 on the same iPad?

Dear zkg1,

Unfortunately no. There has been an update lately. But the problem persists.

I am not sure if you can use both versions on the same device. Perhaps someone else could help you with this question?

:waving_hand:

No, you should not have DEVONthink To Go 3 and 4 available on the same device. After launching version 4, version 3 should be removed – including its app data – and the device rebooted.

Ah ok thanks! I will stick with DTTG 3 then until the jumpiness has been addressed.

The video is missing from your post. Do you still have it or can you record a new one so we can double-check the behavior?

Would it be possible to send it to you directly?

Open a support ticket and attach it. Thank you!

same problem

Jim, it seems it only happens when continuous scrolling is on, and more frequently with horizontal scrolling. Never experienced in page mode in any device, but with scroll on it happens almost each two or three seconds, y any PDF, short or long ones.

We are working on a fix here for version 4.0.6.
