PDF "roundtrip" to Preview for annotations?

Hey folks,

Apoligies if I am missing something simple, but I can’t seem to figure a good way to open a DEVONthink pdf document in Preview for a little markup, and then return it to DEVONthink without having to import a new copy?

1 - Right-click in DT3 and choose “Open With” Preview

2 - Make your edits in Preview

3 - Choose File-Save in Preview

And…

  • If Preview is your default PDF editor, you can press Shift-Command-O to open it in Preview.

  • You can enable Preferences > General > Double-click opens documents externally so double-clicking will open the file in the system default application.

Thanks both. But it seems that as soon as I begin markup in Preview it wants to create a new version of the document. It’s not able to save back to the original?

You likely have the file in the Global Inbox. Preview (for Apple’s “security” reasons), will not allow you to edit a file in the User Library. Move the file to another database (hopefully stored in the Databases folder in your Home directory) and you should be able to edit it.

Ding ding ding! You’ve done it again Bluefrog, that was the problem.

Sorry, it was something simple I missed. Good to know, though.

No worries.
