I’ve got several PDFs that I have tried to add to DT multiple times today. They all come in, get OCRed. And then on a subsequent sync–just disappear. They aren’t in the trash, there are no rules that should be running on them, there’s nothing in the log–they just disappear.

It turns out a smart rule was grabbing them–the rule was searching for a matching phrase that isn’t in the documents, but all the words that make it up are–by adding quotes around the phrases, the smart rule doesn’t match these PDFs and still matches the ones I need it to…
In case of disappearing documents or automatically trashed items it’s always a good idea to check the smart rules first as DEVONthink does never automatically trash or delete items on its own. Verifying the databases (see File > Verify & Repair Database) is also a good idea.
