I see two ways to take a note, neither of which seems to perform in the way one would expect:
In the Data menu, the “New from Template” drop-down menu includes “Note.” This function – incorporating highlighted material or screenshots automatically – is terrific…just what I need. But is there any shortcut by which I can open it in one step? I’d rather not have to go through the three steps of DATA>NEW FROM TEMPLATE>NOTE every time I need to use the function.
From the toolbar, clicking on “Take note” opens a separate “Take Note” box - different from the new note opened by the process described above. When I enter a title, then enter some content, then press “save,” I get a notification that says: “Couldn’t save your note in the database; It has been saved on your Desktop as ‘Unsaved note.txt’.” Am I doing something wrong?
You can assign a shortcut via System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse. Or simply by renaming the template, e.g. to Note___Cmd-Ctrl-Alt-N.templatescriptd (DEVONthink Pro) or Note___Cmd-Ctrl-Alt-N.dtTemplate (DEVONthink Personal).
I’ll ask a modified question, based on some more fiddling around that I’ve just done. What I’d like to do is this:
Let’s say I’m looking at a PDF file that resides in Group A in DT Office Pro.
I annotate the PDF. Now I want to create an annotation of the type that I would get if I selected DATA>CHOOSE FROM TEMPLATE>Annotation. The annotation will appear as a new document in that same Group A.
How should I create a keyboard shortcut that will carry out that sequence of selecting DATA>CHOOSE FROM TEMPLATE>Annotation?
It should be automatically opened. Any alerts on startup?
No alerts appear at startup
The default shortcut is Cmd-Shift-Alt-A.

And is there a default shortcut for the same operation, this time opening a new “note” instead of an annotation?
