Hi all- don’t think this has been posted before. As a recent convert to DTPO I can say that I am 95% happy with the app for storing my business and work reference materials, my only frustration comes from not having a good quick note facility (think Omnifocus - ctrl+alt+spacebar keystrokes) that I need to store random snippets of info for later, so they don’t disrupt my workflow.
(The other frustration is a true iphone app - the only time Evernote scores a lot higher than Devonthink IMHO-- but that’s for another day!)
So for the time being as I’m stuck with the DT widget, one of the annoying things is having to wait for the dashboard to boot before you can take a note. To minimise this disruption I’ve been using Dashboard Kickstart to preload my dashboard into memory when I boot my Mac. Obviously if you are low on memory (although its footprint is below 3MB) or have loads of dashboard widgets that feed from the net (i.e. Macworld news client etc) this doesn’t help much, but I found that if you strip out the superfluous stuff to say just a clock, calendar and the DT note widget, it’s pretty much instantaneous - press F4 and instant note taking! Hope this helps
Can I just back that up. The Dashboard widget really doesn’t hack it. I use Soho Notes just for their quick note facility, which is available whether or not Notes is loaded.
I reckon this is the top of my wish list, with blank typewriter screen next.
Add these features and I won’t have to use any other programs at all!
Absolutely agree with you- I’m hoping from the hint above it’s coming soon.
However my real wish is an unholy love-child between DTPO and Circus Ponies Notebook- I know it’ll never happen but I can dream… one app to rule them all
I can see it now: A devonian-era eohippus* prancing around with John Dvorak as Ringmistress.
*Yes, I know that the devonian was 400MY ago and eohippus appeared in the eocene epoch, which was ~40MY ago. But to recognize this would destroy my joke above. So I’m ignoring it.
[Note: Devon Technologies takes its name from the geologic era, the linchpin of my feeble attempt at humor.]
