Am I right in my conclusion you can’t add indexed files to the reading list? I’ve tried and it’s not happening for me.

Indexed items can be added too. What kind of item did you try to add and which version of DEVONthink do you use?
My error. Just checked and it was an empty folder I was trying to add, files appear to work fine.
