I don’t know whether it’s relevant that after each first use of the extension following a reboot, CleanMyMac now tells me that the extension is unresponsive. I click Ignore and the extension continues to operate normally.
My experience too. The extension sometimes is gone and sometimes not. Just for your information, this is a first world problem.
Maybe it‘s an iCloud sync issue? I don’t know what settings of safari are synced. Maybe plugins are one of them?
What happens if you deactivate Safari in iCloud settings?
I have disabled Share across devices in the settings for Safari extensions. Is that the setting you are referring to?
Actually I missed that one, but sounds good enough to try! I was referring to the settings in iCloud itself, where you can turn on/off sync for various apps, including Safari. With Safari it’s used to sync open tabs, browser history and such and was wondering if it had an effect on plugins as well.
Any update? I’m still losing the DEVONthink Safari extension on Tahoe 26.1
I’ve tried both downloading and re-installing the DEVONthink installer or using the command line fix listed here, neither seem to solve the issue.
One piece of information: I have the DT extension also installed for Microsoft Edge Browser and Chrome Browser. It is stable with those.
So my quick workaround is to cut and paste the current page URL I am viewing in Safari and switch to the other browser to use the extension.
(I prefer using Safari as my main browser, but use the others for special cases; looks like ‘clipping to DT’ has become the most important ‘special case’ for me right now!)
No, there is nothing to report. And as I mentioned previously, the extension is not required. See…
Thanks!
The share menu from Safari seems like the closest workflow.
However, when I use the share menu, the title of the document is prefilled with “automatic” in grey.
That’s ok, but with the Safari extension, the name field was filled in with the automatic document name and I could add text or modify it before sending it along.
With the share menu, if I add text, it removes the greyed-out “automatic” so I lose that data.
No biggie, but is there a way I can add text with the share menu instead of having to into DEVONthink and edit the title in the inbox?
I highly recommend using the hotkey you define in DEVONthink’s Sorter settings.
Though for me, Devonthink 4 isn’t available in the share menu either.
I’ve just enabled the DT Sorter in the menu bar; it may even become my preferred workflow! (I do most of my clipping from iPadOS anyway.)
I’m having this problem with the missing plugin and no option to share to DEVONthink from Safari either via the plugin option or via the share menu (DT doesn’t appear as an option there). I’m using a machine that had DT 3 on it and was upgraded to DT 4. I’ve gone through the steps I’ve been able to find in this long thread, and none have fixed it. Is there a page anywhere with updated information about what to do to fix this problem?
This is just a few posts up from here…
Update, in case it’s useful for DT’s troubleshooting purposes: After doing the various things mentioned above without success, the “add to DEVONthink” option just spontaneously reappeared in my share menu in Safari (still no extension on the toolbar, which I’m less concerned about now that it’s in the share menu again). I didn’t make any changes since my last post that would have caused this change. ![]()
We have had a few other sporadic reports so thanks for chiming in.
