I have renamed databases in their respective Database properties; they appear fine in the left pane but are not updated in the Finder. I tried closing the databases (then they appear in recent databases with the original name). Do I need to update them also in the finder?
The name in database properties is merely a title for display purposes. You’ll need to close the database. Remove it from recents (File > Open Recent > Clear Recents and favorites so the old name does not reappear. Then rename the database in Finder and reopen it.
