Reparations failed?

I regularly and manually take each database and run first the ‘Verify & Repair,’ then the ‘Optimize & Backup’ menu commands.

Today, one of my datases told me that there 45,000 errors, and asked me if I wanted to repair. I did, but got 'Reparations Failed-45,000 files missing."

I can still see all the files I expect, but the database is very, very slow, even just moving a file from one group to another. Activity monitor tells me CPU usage is quite high.

I tried rebuilding the database, which appeared to complete through the Spotlight index rebuild. But the same problem persists.

Any recommendations?

Did you try to restore a backup via Tools > Restore Backup? As you’re regularly verifying & backing up, there should be a usable backup.

In addition, did you move/rename the database while it was in use? Or anything else which was unusual before using this database?

I have tried the ‘Restore Backup’ option. I only had three choices, the oldest of which was yesterday afternoon, around the time I first had the problem. I don’t know why there aren’t any older versions, although I can find older backups (from my personal backups), if you tell me what files to find.

I triggered the episode by initiating the ‘Repair & Optimize’ process.

The database has 21.25 GB, and most of my personal data.

Thoughts?

The number of backups can be set via Preferences > Backup.

The easiest solution is probably to restore the complete database package (extension .dtBase2) from one of your personal backups.
