Replicate as well as create an item on import

I don’t know if this would be a popular feature so it may not be worth putting it in, but thought I’d suggest it anyway. I’ve grown to love the ability recently added to simply type the group name for the location of something I’m importing. Sometimes when doing so I think of even one or two other groups I might want to have a replicant of the item. I wonder if we could have a means to replicate the item to a group, or multiple groups even, via text entry similar to the means provided as we import the item?

Have you thought about using tags instead; an automatic type of special group/replicant

Replicating is possible via Data > Move To… and holding the Command-Option modifier keys and via the See Also & Classify inspector and holding the Option modifier key.

Ah, I was thinking about the web clip extension and the sorter. Often I’m collecting things via those methods and the DEVONthink main interface is not on the same screen when so. Usually what I do from that interface is right-click the item and replicate to.. The idea was to replicate on import via extension/sorter. Again, there are easy ways to do so later so it may not be worth adding something new.

A smart rule might be able to automate this, assuming that the replication is based on a certain scheme.

It’s unclear what you’re thinking here.

You know the capability you just added that lets you type a group location and it rapidly filters the list for the location to import:

What it there was a field just below the “Location” entry for “Replicate to” and the same text/search entry?

Probably overkill though the more I think about it, not sure many people would use it enough to warrant adding. If I have to replicate, it probably means I should work on my organization a bit better, tag the file, or one of he other options @cgrunenberg mentioned. Thanks anyway.

Yeah, it definitely feels like something for a very limited audience, but at least that’s much more clear to assess.
