Restore old smart rules from TimeMachine Backup

Dear community, can I restore smart rules created in DT3 from a TimeMachine backup?
Thanks a lot

Yes. It’s the ~/Library/Application Support/DEVONthink 3/SmartRules.plist file.

Perfect! Thanks a lot!!

My experience is that depending on whether it is exactly the same installation or not you may have to re-enter the location on which the smart rule is to act after you have restored it (when you open the smart rule, instead of your previous location - e.g. Inbox - you may find the drop-down empty and a warning text in red, something along the lines of location invalid. Simply click the drop-down and reselect the appropriate location)

@BLUEFROG

Thank you, Jim. Is there a similar solution for the configured stamps?

The ~/Library/Application Support/DEVONthink 3/Imprinter.data file.

i ran in this twice now.

everything worked fine and i regularly backuped the smart rules.
but there was an error in dttg where it often sent error “couldnt create new note”.
couldnt solve it so i reinstalled on ios.
after connecting to mac :point_right: all smart rules red.

plist restore to path from backup from day before didnt restore my 600 smart rules.

have to re-enter the location on which the smart rule is to act manually again
((with a bit help with saved mouse positions through bettertouchtool and shortcat))

solution for this would be very considerate

((being able to batch edit smart rules would also be a godsend))

Please start a new thread for a new problem, don’t hijack one that is four (!) years old. And please explain exactly what you’re doing and what happens when and where, including error messages.

For example

is lacking context. What is “this”?

What is “everything”, how did you back up your smart rules and where?

How is that related to anything? The thread was originally about DT, as DTTG doesn’t really support smart rules. And what does “couldn’t create new note” have to do with your smart rules anyway? Which kind of note did you try to create how (and please create a new thread in the DTTG group if you have a problem with DTTG).
