I rather suspect I am getting this message as I am on a new iMac desktop. The advice on the internet seems to be to delete DEVONthink 3 and then activate DEVONthink 4. I never got around to deleting DEVONthink 3 before my previous iMac suddenly died on me and my information was migrated from a backup to the new iMac. I just wondered if there is an actual uninstaller for DEVONthink 3 and how I actually go about entering the licence key to activate DEVONthink 4.
In the menu bar: DEVONthink > License…. What do you see?
Also, you probably want to remove the seat from your old iMac. You can do that from your costumer account on devontechnologies.com.
When I click on DEVONthink it actually says “Enter License” on the drop down menu which is a pretty good indication that it isn’t active. I will look at removing the seat from my old Mac - thanks.
On the new Mac…
- Log into your DEVONtechnologies customer account.
- Click the appropriate product in the
Your Licensessection to display your licensing information. - In the
Devicessection, press the Edit button. - Press the encircled minus (-) button next to the device from which you want to remove the seat.
- Scroll to the top of the page and press the Activate button.
Thanks Bluefrog. It’s morning here in Australia so I have just seen your message. I will follow what you said but just wanted to ask if it matters whether I follow the above steps before or after deleting DEVONthink 3 from my new Mac? Also is there an uninstaller or do I just drag the application to the Bin.
On the new Mac first move the DEVONthink 3 application (and only the application) to the trash and empty the trash. Then install DEVONthink 4 if it’s not already installed and finally follow the above steps.
Thanks - yes DEVONthink 4 is installed but I just hadn’t got rid of DEVONthink 3.
