That is correct.
The UUID of an email is derived from its message id, a value unique to the email.
Since you can’t have multiple files with the same UUID, you cannot import the same email into a database twice.

If a mail already exists in a database and one imports the same mail again it is replicated now (given that one imports into another group, there’s no replicant created when importing into the existing mail’s group).

Not sure when this was added, couldn’t find it in the help’s Version History.

However it is mentioned in help Import data > Archiving Email under Problems importing or moving Emails:

In Preferences > Email you can enable Previously imported will become replicants to import the messages into the same database as replicants. However, this still will not allow moving messages into databases already containing those emails.

@bluefrog the help uses the old preferences path, it’s Files > Emails now.
