Probably staring me right in face… but I can’t seem to find it…
Is there a help page or other on formats for conducting more extensive search?
i.e. using quotes; predicates, other formats for search etc.?

You could start on the home page of online help by reading the topic “Finding Documents”. Lots of links there for the advanced topics you’re looking for.
ahh yes- that took me down the path to get to it - I thought I’d seen it somewhere;
