Search not finding a document

Hi All,

I have a document that I’m not presented with in the search dialogue in a particular search, although I am searching for words that are in the document’s title, the tags and / or the document itself.

The document’s title is “UNS Tipp Mail”, the tags are “mail”, “unsigned”, “vorlage”, and the formatted note includes the words “unsigned” and “tipp”.

I can find the document searching for uns&tipp&mail, but not searching for unsigned&tipp&mail. I don’t understand why. Is there anything I am overlooking here?

Looking forward to comments.
Christoph

The search engine applies the search term currently to each metadata (e.g. title, URL, content etc.) on its own to make results more consistent with/without proximity operators.

But the search term unsigned&tipp&mail doesn’t match any metadata (some words are in the title, some in the content). A future release will probably revise this, one workaround might be to use the advanced search in the meantime.

Hi Christian,

thanks for the reply. I think I was using advanced search if that’s the window you get by pressing cmd-shift-f. Or is advanced search another option I may not have found yet?

Kind Regards,
Christoph

There is an Advanced button on the Full Search (Tools > Search). This allows you to specify multiple criteria, like Smart Groups.

Ah that button. Yes, it allows me to specify additional criteria. But with this search, I wasn’t sure where the words would be - in the tags, the title, or the content. But I knew, all of the search terms would be related to the document in some way.

So, I’m still having trouble to understand why the full search for unsigned&tipp&mail should not find the document titled “UNS Tipp Mail” containig the words “unsigned” and “tipp” in the text and carrying the tags “unsigned” and “mail”. Every single one of the search terms is associated with the document, either in the title, the tags, or the content. Shouldn’t it at least pop up with a lower score?

I just experimented with the search and it gets more confusing: If I only search for unsigned&tipp, the document shows up with a high score. If I return to search for unsigned&tipp&mail (again, mail being a word in the title) the document vanishes from the search results.

I have this issue frequently. I would very my welcome the ability to have search easily find matches across different metadata.

Right now in general if you enter a tag, and a word only in the text, DTPO will not find it. I understand why, but I get caught up on this all the time. I don’t want to have to think about which words are tags and which are not.

Although DTPO doesn’t find these cases, DTTG’s search engine does find these sorts of matches. I understand that it is simpler internally, but for me a simple search across all fields works better than DTPO’s search, even though the latter may be technically more advanced and/or more efficient.

+1 for enhancing (or should I say, relaxing) the search in future versions.
