would like the ability to search within groups / tags. This helps narrow the field down.

You could either search in the selection (see popup menu of toolbar search) or select the desired group/database in the search window (see Tools > Search). The advanced settings of the search window support also tags.
Are we speaking of the ToGo app on the iPhone?
