Send document with email client other than Mail

I don’t use Mail as email client, prefering more powerful and light software. I prefer Postbox. It is set as my default email client.

However, I have in Devon Think the same problem as in other Apple native programs: I can’t find how to send documents from Devon Think by email through Postbox or another email client. Mail is explicit in the right click option of any Devon document. It seems impossible to open Mail even if another program is the default email client. But I’m sure there is a turnaround.

I couldn’t find any other relevant option in Preferences.
Is there a way to change this setting?

My experience has been that when I right-click on a document and select ‘Send by Email’, the document will be attached to a new message in the default email client. I done this with Postbox and Entourage, although I use Mail as my regular email client. I just tested it this morning with Postbox Express and it worked fine. One note on doing this is that DEVONthink will use the email client that was the default when DEVONthink was launched. So if you have DEVONthink running and change the email client, you’ll nee to restart DEVOnthink for the change to take place.

BTW: Impatient to see a mobile version of Devon Think.

Sorry, but this doesn’t work at all for me. As mentionned above, I have Postbox as default email client, and haven’t changed that for months. However, when I right-click on “Send by Email” (in my French version of Devon Think), it’s the unwanted program Mail that get’s open. How come, I don’t know. I’m under Leopard 10.5.8 and have installed the last Devon Think version.

Additionnally, even as the program opens Apple Mail and a new message, no document is attached to this message.

You might want to open a support ticket and include which version (Pro, Pro Office) of DT that you are using. Could be a localization issue or the version of DT, but it does work for me with the English version of Pro Office, Leopard 10.5.8.

I have the same problem with DevonThink Personal and Postbox Express.

Is there any news on this for emailing docs?

I have a workaround for this problem:

1. Draw Postbox to the toolbar in Finder.
2. Select the document in DevonThink to be sent, right-click on it and choose “show in finder”.
3. Draw the document to the icon of Postbox.

This is an issue of all editions except DEVONthink Pro Office. The upcoming v2.0.4 will fix this and always use the default email client, including Postbox.
