I’d like to use DEVONthink to fetch my emails directly via IMAP.
We’re using the Server version, but I can’t find any plugin for this.
Is there any way to make it work?
Sorry but this is not possible at this time. DEVONthink isn’t an email client. Someone did custom configure some kind of setup but it’s not something we officially support.
Okay, I probably didn’t express myself clearly. I want to archive my emails automatically. Since I’m not using Apple Mail but another email client (Spark), the only option left for automatic retrieval seems to be via IMAP, right?
I vaguely remember that there used to be an import option… something like File/Import/IMAP or Mail?
In think you are mistaken. DT would, as @BLUEFROG explained, have to include an email client speaking the IMAP protocol. Which it does not. If it did, there would hardly be any need to support Apple‘s mail client directly.
OTOH, it’s not a trivial task to write an IMAP client. Especially given the gazillion of authentication and authorization options out there.
Your best bet would be, I think, to point Apple Mail to your IMAP server and then have DT load whatever you want from Mail.
In DEVONthink 2.x, there was a File > Import > Email command. That was changed to the View > Import sidebar in version 3. However, that only works with Apple Mail and Outlook. Spark does not have proper inter-application communication to do anything in an automated way.
OK, I can set up Apple Mail and let it run in parallel via IMAP. However, I’m missing the function you mentioned: View > Import > Email. Is it possible that the server version doesn’t support this plugin (I’m assuming it’s a plugin)?
It’s not a plugin, nor is it a menu command in the File > Import submenu.
It is View > Import to open the sidebar. Then the Emails section.
