Smart rule greyed out on some docx and not others

I have noticed an odd behaviour. I have a smart rule that executes an AppleScript on MS word documents. If I ‘right click’ on some docx documents I can run the smart rule (it shows up under ‘Apply Rules’). However other docx documents it is greyed out. I am struggling to understand why.

The particular word documents also don’t appear in the list when I click on the smart rule in the navigator. They are all listed in the info inspector as ‘kind Microsoft word document’

Any ideas?

Even if I change the kind to any document, they still don’t show.

Cracked it. The documents were all in a group where the group (a DB Inbox) had exclude from search checked.

Indeed, that will inhibit finding things in a search
