Some markdown tools missing?

Hello all

I’ve been using Devonthink for a couple of weeks now and getting along quite fine.

I thought I’d give this markdown caper a go and so far so good, however I notice that when I have the markdown tools icon selected, half of the tools are greyed out…

Do I need to tick a box somewhere?

This is the standard text editing bar, depending on the document format not all options are available. However, some commands require a text selection and at least on the screenshot there’s none.
