I just moved a document into one of my inboxes (not the global inbox) in the sorter. The sorter tab sprang to life. The document went into the appropriate box. Then the tab stuck open, and nothing else happened. Any clicking on the sorter anywhere results in a “ding.” I opened DTPO. The new document was NOT passed on to the appropriate inbox. I tried quitting the sorter from DTPO Preferences. It won’t quit. It is just sitting there on my screen, wide-open, annoying and mocking.
I don’t have time to quit and restart at the moment since I’m working on a big project with many open apps and windows. But that’s the only solution that I can think of.
Any other suggestions?
Short answer: open Activity Monitor (in Applications / Utilities), search for “Sorter” (search is only available if you DON’T have the “Energy” pane selected in Activity Monitor), then quit or force-quit DEVONthink Sorter.
Before discovering this answer, I wrote some words about maintaining open windows after restarting DEVONthink, which may still be useful to you:
For me, DEVONthink maintains the state of its windows after quitting and reopening the application. (This is despite having checked “Close windows when quitting an app” in System Preferences -> General.) However, if you’re worried you’ll lose where you are, you can add a new workspace: in DEVONthink, look at the bottom of the Go menubar. Under Workspaces, select Add…, and enter a name for your new workspace. If you later select this workspace from the menu, DEVONthink will open all the same windows you had open when you added the workspace. It’s helpful for picking up where you left off.
