Sync DevonThink To Go over VPN

I have a critical need to sync DTTG when I am not connected to my home network. I have a VPN in place that allows connection to my Mac server and want to use that to sync my iPad.

Has anyone done this? Is it even possible?

And please, do NOT tell me "this is coming in version 2. I’ve grown tired of waiting for that faerie tale to materialize, and I need this capability now.

I doubt it is possible, because DT uses your wifi signal to sync, not the Internet. I have a similar need to access files that are on my computer but not synced to my iPad, mainly because of space constraints on the iPad. I index my files, making them available via SpiderOak. It works well for me.
