Sync Smart Groups and Rules between two laptops

How do I sync smart groups and rules between two laptops? I am syncing databases by bonjour and didn’t see an option in sync preferences for the smart groups and smart rules. Thanks.

Smart Groups and Rules are not synced. You could transfer them by copying /Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/DEVONthink 3/SmartGroups.plist and SmartRules.plist from one device to the other; obviously that is not the same as syncing - rather the receiving device would see any Smart Rules and Groups overwritten.

Also, you’d want DEVONthink on the receiving machine to not be open if you do this manual transfer.

No problem.

I know this thread is a little old, but this may help.

  1. Right-click on a Smart Group or Smart Rule and select Export.
  2. Save the file and then transfer to the target computer.
  3. On the target computer, drag the file onto the DT dock icon
  4. Enjoy the transferred Smart Group or Smart Rule

You can select multiple “Smarts” to do bulk export and import.
