Too large for Volume format puzzle

Bit of a puzzle:

  1. I create a database archive

  2. Once ready, I try to move it to a flash drive (22 GB free space)

  3. My archive is 6 GB

  4. When I try to add to flash drive, I get the following message: >>The item “Latin America Teaching.dtBase2 archive.zip” can’t be copied because it is too large for the volume’s format

Thanks for any suggestions

If your flash drive is formatted as FAT32, it will have a limit on the size of a file – 4GB if I recall correctly. That’s probably what the reference to “the volume’s format” in the error is.

You can reformat the flash drive in Disk Utility and reformat the drive as Mac OS Extended (journaled)

Yup, that was it! Many thanks.
