I’m just wanting to be double-check something.
I’m on about day 3 of my 30-day trial. As I start creating usable databases, I’m wanting to be sure that I’ll be able to transfer them to a licensed installation of DEVONThink even if I’m not able to purchase a licensed copy for several more months.
I’m thinking to myself, “Surely this won’t be a problem.”
But when I think to myself, I’m often wrong.
Could someone please reassure me? These dbs created under the 30-day trial will sit dormant on my hard drive for possibly three months or so.
Thanks.
DT databases are just glorified folders. No problem using them now or later. Just make sure you don’t fiddle around with them in the meantime – no changing anything in them from outside of DT, eg Finder or terminal.
Welcome @Charles56
There is no transfer to the licensed installation. You’ll just double-click the .dtBase2 file(s) in the Finder to open them in DEVONthink, no different than you can do now.
Thank you, Bullfrog. So my DT databases will be there waiting for me even if it’s a few months before I can buy a license? I won’t need to uninstall my trial setup? I know that my concerns are likely unfounded, but I wanted to be absolutely sure before I spend nearly a month setting up DT. Thanks.
You’re welcome!

Absolutely. The databases are not inside the application. They are files in the Finder, typically stored in the Databases folder in your home directory. And they can sit quietly for as long as needed.
I won’t need to uninstall my trial setup?
No, and reinstallation isn’t something you should be thinking about.

You’re welcome and no, there’s no cause for concern.
